Announcement of Semi Finalists

The moment we've all been waiting for has arrived: the semi-finalists for ICCR have been unveiled. It's time for them to prepare for the initial rounds, scheduled to be held at de Doelen in Rotterdam from June 17-19.

Applications closed

We are thrilled to announce that the applications for the second edition of ICCR have officially closed, featuring submissions from 175 conductors representing 54 different countries.

Next edition ICCR in 2025

Nine months after the very first edition, the International Conducting Competition Rotterdam is now excited to announce the details of the next competition, which will take place in 2024 and 2025 in de Doelen, Rotterdam. Applications will be open from 1 September to 1 December 2023.

Bertie Baigent new assistant of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra

Bertie Baigent has just been announced as the new assistant of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, where he will be working closely with Lahav Shani. We are thrilled to welcome him back to Rotterdam regularly this upcoming season.

Announcement winners

The winners of the first International Conducting Competition Rotterdam has been announced! Bertie Baigent (1995, United Kingdom) was awarded the Grand Prix tonight!

From 26 May to 3 June six designated winners presented themselves in five rounds with different prestigious orchestras and ensembles. Tonight all six conducted the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra in de Doelen with a programme filled with grand symphonic works. The jury, including Lahav Shani and Karina Canellakis, just announced the prize winners.

Get ready for the Finals

The six designated winners - Carlos Ágreda, Bertie Baigent, Martijn Dendievel, Chloe Rooke, Joel Sandelson and Luis Toro Araya - show what they have to offer during a spectacular final concert with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. This gives the audience the unique opportunity to experience how different conductors give their own twist to the orchestra and to the music. After the evening concert the prizes will be awarded by the jury.

Ticket sales has started

Ticket sales for the International Conducting Competition Rotterdam, which will take place from 26 May to 3 June 2022, has started. There are five thematic rounds with different top orchestras. Each round is a fully-fledged project in itself, with rehearsals and a closing concert. Tickets are available for both the rehearsals and for the concerts.

Six designated winners announced

Twentyfour promising conductors performed in the main hall of De Doelen with Sinfonia Rotterdam during the opening round of the International Conducting Competiton Rotterdam (1 - 3 June 2021). Today, we can finally announce the six designate winners who will present themselves in the 2022 competition.

Meet the jury

The ICCR presents a new format for the judging, in which a winner will be determined for each round. Next to these six ‘specialist awards’ also a Grand Prix will be awarded for the best all-round conductor. The international jury will consist of a fixed core of four members extended with three rotating ‘specialists’ for each round.
